At a County Borough level, the Caerau; Cornelly; Llangynwyd; Maesteg East and West; and Pyle, Kenfig Hill & Cefn Cribwr wards are in the Bridgend County Borough Council area.  All other wards listed above fall under the Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council area.

The area is rich in tradition and is a home to Aberavon beach, Margam Country Park, and the TATA Steel Works.
